This week...

By November 2nd:
Complete first draft of music video, all editing and filming should be complete.

-This week we need to make sure our first draft is complete and handed in to the English office by Friday. Marks will be deducted for late submission therefore it is important that we hand it in on time. To ensure we meet the deadline we need to use all of our lesson time on putting the film together and any frees we have together if we feel we need extra time.

Filming Session 3

Today, I finished filming the video. Due to the fact I didn't use a tripod, some of the shots will need re-filming after our draft video submission. I made a note of the shots we had filmed so I could keep track of what needed filming next and it also helped to make sure there were no shots missing. I took a another photo of Kayleigh to show that we are still keeping continuity throughout our filming.

Now our filming is complete, next week at school, we can work together on editing the video together.

Filming

Tomorrow, I will be completing the rest of the filming that needs to be done. Charlotte is on work experience therefore we have decided I will finish the filming on my own. The rest of the shots that need filming are all indoors and then having all the shots ready for when we come back to school will enable us to get on with editing.
Kayleigh will be coming to my house to film since my bedroom is suitable for the remaining shots. I will need:
  • Video camera and Tripod
  • Shot List (So I can see which shots need filming)
  • Outfits
  • Make-Up and Hair spray (To keep Kayleigh's look continuous from the past filming sessions)

Next Week...

Next week is half term therefore today we discussed what shots still need to be filmed.
We have found that the only bits that we have left to film are the shots of Kayleigh singing in a bedroom so we need to organise another filming session during the half term and then we should have all our footage. We need to put all of our footage on a memory stick and bring it in to school on Monday 29th October so we can get straight onto editing it together. Our deadline for the draft gives us one week to finish editing after half term.
Deadline Reminder : Friday 2nd November

Draft Digipak

This is my draft digipak, there are a lot of aspects I don't like and would like to change for my final version. I have used an image of Taylor swift taken from the Internet to show what kind of photograph I hope to have on the cover.

Filming Session 2

Today we filmed all the shots we needed containing our actor Sam. These were primarily outdoor shots which we filmed in Sam's garden. We were initially supposed to be filming these shots at Emma's house, however due to her house being unavailable and limited time we could film Sam, we decided that Sam's house was the only option.

The filming session was successful as we have now gathered most of our footage. The only scenes left to film are the bedroom scenes which we plan to film in the holiday. We will be filming these shots at Shannon's house as she has an appropriate bedroom that fits the setting for our artist.

We made sure we varied the costumes featured in our shots and have filmed Kayleigh in three different outfits within today's filming session.

Today...

After school today we will be filming more of our video. Despite our original plans to film at Emma's house, we will now be filming at Sam's due to transport issues. Our aim is to film all the shots that contain our male star Sam since this is our only chance to film with him before our draft deadline.
The plan:
I will take Charlotte to Sam's since I can drive and Kayleigh will meet us there. We will all meet at 4:00 and the equipment we will need is as follows:
  • Video Camera
  • Tripod
  • Outfits and Make-up for Kayleigh (We will refer back to the image we took of Kayleigh last filming session to ensure we maintain continuity in her look)
  • Shot List (This will help us see what shots still need to be filmed and which have already been done)
We will film any outdoor shots first because if we leave it too late we might start to lose the light.

Draft of my Digipak

Choice of Video Camera

For our first filming session we only had access to a basic video camera to film our outdoor scenes. These shots are usable,  however lack clarity and so for our further session we will be borrowing an HD camera. This camera will hopefully provide us with the detail and resolution to improve the overall appearance of our video and make it look far more professional.

Digipak Design Idea

I have chosen to use a close up of the artist's face on the cover as this is a convention for the country/pop genre. On the inside three panels, I hope to use a panorama shot of a beach or a woodland, depending what fits best when I trial them out. The inside cover will contain a 'thank you' section and the artist name will appear underneath , as a signature so it appears more personal.
All of the copyright and album details will feature out of the way at the bottom of the back pannel so it doesn't interfer with the design and layout of the rest of the digipak.

Album Release Date

After discussing when our album could be released, we decided on November 16th 2012 which is a Friday. Most albums are released on a Friday or Saturday therefore we are following conventions in releasing ours on his date.

Filming Session 1

Today we started to film for our music video, we filmed the sequence for the instrumental as well as a small part of the song that follows. Unfortunately we were not able to film as much as anticipated because of the weather; it started raining so we had to stop filming. We are pleased with the footage we did manage to get and will organise another filming session to get the next part sorted. I our next filming session, we need to try and film all the sections with Sam in since he is unavailable next week which is realistically when we need to be finishing the video off and editing it together.
We took photos of our main star before the filming so we could re-create her image next time. It allows us to see how she's styled so that we can maintain continuity throughout our video.

Hair Styling

We want our artist to have loose curls similar to the images below. This hair style is subtle and looks natural which is exactly the image we want to portray.

Costume

These are the items of clothing I own that I think will be suitable for my artist to wear. The clothes are the same size as the artist so this is convenient.

I have chosen these because the colours are neutral and present her in the way that we want (Innocent)

Costume Ideas

Here are a selection of possible items that may be used for Verity's Costume.

Record Company Logo

After discussing the record label logos on our lesson yesterday, we have decided that this logo works best and looks most convincing for our fictional record company:

Friday 12 October 2012

Costume

After considering our budget, we have decided that we will both go home and select the most appropriate items from our own wardrobes, that would be suitable for Verity in our video. We will then experiment with outfits on Kayleigh to see which fit/suit her best and are most in keeping with our characters personality. The items we will try to find are those primarily in nude tones or floral designs and of an elegant and demure cut.

Filming Session Alteration

We have altered the date for our filming session from Sunday 14th to Monday 15th  because Kayleigh is no longer available to film on Sunday.

Digipak Template

Here is the template for the size and shape my digipak will be when printed.

Make-Up

The style of make up that we plan to use on Verity will be minimal and highlight her beauty and youth. The aim of the make-up is to make her skin look pale and clear and her eyes look large and innocent. We also want to give her a slight glow on her cheeks and subtle pink lips so she appears healthy.

Here are some examples of the make up style;

Shot List

Here are the shots of our video grouped together according to location, so when we begin filming we can film all the shots for each location in one. Under each shot are the lyrics or sound that is playing during the shot. Shots that are used more than once will have to be filmed repeatedly with the appropriate lip syncing for each version. Shots that will be used on multiple occasions at the same point within the song, we will simply film once and re-use during editing.

Record Label

I have created a fictional record label for our artist to make our product appear more professional.
Our record company will be called: Records 13
These are my logo designs:

After we select the best logo design, we will be able to include it on our digipaks and posters.

Filming Preparation

Our first filming session will take place on Sunday 14th October. We will be filming the outdoor shots so we will just need Kayleigh for this section.
The equipment and props we will need are:
- Shot list (so we know what shots we've grouped together)
- Outfits
- Ipod (to play the song)
- Portable speakers (for playing the song aloud outdoors)
- Camera and Tripod
- Original storyboards (can refer back to them if we need to)
- Camera (Take pictures of the filming in action)
- Hairspray, make-up, make-up wipes
- Blanket and Coat for Kayleigh

- Before going out to film, we will style Kayleigh's hair and do her make-up at my house in Broughton Astley since that is also our outdoor filming location.
- We also need to take a photo of her face proir to the first take so that we can retain continuity in her hair and make-up throughout the shoot.
-On the shoot, we need to take a warm and coat blanket for her as she will only be wearing a dress for the duration of the shoot and she will be cold.

Track Listing

1) Believe
2) Forever and Always
3) 13
4) Brave
5) Fairytale
6) Hey Sam
7) Black Horse
8) We Belong Together
9) By The Phone
10) Sorry Is Not Enough
11) Sleeping Alone
12) Window Pain
13) Forever and Always (Acoustic Version)

To decide on these track names, we looked at previous songs released on Taylor Swift's album and altered them slightly. We had to keep in mind that the names needed to fit the same theme and sound realistic to the genre. The album is called 'Believe' so we listed that as our first song, then 'Forever and Always' is the featured song that our music video is based on so we have listed that as the second track. The final track is an acoustic version; having the bonus track at the end of the album is a generic convention that spreads across all genres of music.

Video Camera

The video camera we will use to record our film will be a HD camera that we will hire from school; it records on a memory card which will be easy for us to transfer onto the computer to edit when we are ready. To keep the camera stable, we will need to hire a tripod from school; this will enhance the quality of our filming.

This Week...

This week we need to draw up our digipak designs and upload them onto our Blog.
We also need to start filming our video and organise a day where our main star Kayleigh is available to start filming the outdoor shots. We cannot start the indoor filming until next week because our male role Sam is not available this week. Sunday has the most promising weather forecast this week therefore we will aim to arrange filming for this day.

The Golden Spiral Rule

When designing and analysing our posters, we need to consider the 'Golden Spiral' rule where there should be something, leading the eye across the poster and then to the center of the composition. Therefore, when making our posters, we need to ensure that there is something that stands out as the main focus point to prevent it from looking unorganised.

Digipak - Cover Ideas and Editing

I have looked at different ways I can edit my album cover to make it more striking to look at.
The photographs have been taken and are owned by Sam Shelton (http://samuel-shelton-photography.blogspot.co.uk/) who will be playing the male role in our video.
